Dressing Divine.
Hairspray has always held a special place in my heart as my all-time favorite film. I remember watching it for the first time when I was a wee lass and being captivated by the vibrant characters and their costumes. The collaboration between John Waters and costume designer Van Smith, who created iconic looks like Ricki Lake's pink satin strapless cockroach gown, showcased a level of imagination and humor that is beyond any other level. Although I may not have fully understood the plot at the time, looking back, I realize that watching Hairspray played a significant role in my passion for film and ultimately took a part in leading me to pursue becoming a costume designer. John Waters, the king of kitsch cinema, will forever be my hero.

"Hairspray" is a musical comedy film set in 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. The story follows teenager Tracy Turnblad, who dreams of dancing on "The Corny Collins Show.” Despite her unconventional looks, Tracy auditions for the show and impresses the judges with her dance moves. Tracy's newfound fame causes tension with the show's reigning queen bee, Amber Von Tussle, and her mother Velma, who run the show and are determined to keep Tracy from stealing the spotlight.

"Pink Flamingos" follows the outrageous and eccentric life of Divine, a flamboyant drag queen dubbed the "Filthiest Person Alive." "Serial Mom’s” Beverly Sutphin, is a seemingly perfect suburban housewife who harbors a dark secret - she is a serial killer. Beverly takes it upon herself to rid her community of people she deems as rude or disrespectful, committing murder with a cheerful and almost nonchalant attitude.
As the bodies start to pile up, Beverly's daughter Misty begins to suspect that her mother may be involved in the killings. However, Beverly's husband and son remain oblivious to her murderous activities, seeing her only as a devoted wife and mother.
