Chinatown is a classic neo-noir film released in 1974, directed by Roman Polanski, starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. Its intricate plot and atmospheric cinematography make it one of the greatest films ever made.
Set in Los Angeles during the 1930s, the story revolves around private investigator J.J. Gittes (played by Jack Nicholson), who is hired to follow a woman named Evelyn Mulwray (played by Faye Dunaway). Initially, Gittes believes he is tracking Evelyn’s husband to expose his infidelity. However, as he delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a complex web of deceit involving water rights, corruption, and a much darker conspiracy than he anticipated.
Anthea Sylbert Costume Designer, was Oscar-nominated for multiple awards, including the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her work in Chinatown. She frequently collaborated with prominent directors, such as Roman Polanski and Milos Forman, during the 70’s and 80s.
